A co-founder of the MFA program in creative writing at the University of Mississippi, he’s now a professor of English and creative writing program director at Montclair State University. He’s the editor in chief of Vestal Review, the longest-running flash fiction magazine on the planet.

Three months later the ship sails into Honolulu Harbor where Almond transfers to an oil tanker supplying islands of the South Pacific. Oh such hardships!

Anna Wilmans grew up on the East Coast where her first introduction to archaeology was discovering Native American burials along the Connecticut shore, and an early 4-year-old’s fascination with burying coins for later generations.

Anna is a direct descendent of Alessandro Manzoni (March 7, 1785 – May 22, 1873), an Italian poet and novelist best known for The Betrothed (1827), and writing was a natural path.

She did her undergraduate work at Connecticut College and earned an MA in classical archaeology at the University of Missouri where she was mentored by Gladys Davidson Weinberg, a pioneering female archaeologist and expert in ancient glass. It was at Hebrew Union College with Dr. Weinberg where Anna’s passion for terracotta Roman lamps was born. This later became the subject of her PhD.

During her years in archaeology she participated in excavations in Israel, Turkey and Greece.

A chance encounter with Jiri Frel, a then curator of antiquities at the Getty Museum in Malibu, lead to her continuing her studies at USC.

However, before her PhD was completed, the first Getty scandal broke, Frel left the Getty for Paris, and Anna was left with no mentor. Fortunately, she was offered an internship in the Asian Art department at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), resulting in the completion of her PhD.

Misogyny in the academic world, coupled with the disturbing revelations of the Getty Scandals led her away from the world of archaeology, spending the next several years on a ranch in Nevada.

Most recently, Anna has returned to California and has had her interest in archaeology rekindled by the Chumash land where she lives. In addition, she is currently devoting time to wildlife conservation in this area, notably the mountain lion.

She has written catalogs of ancient art, numerous scholarly articles on archaeological subjects, and contributed to books of art and antiquities.

Anna is an active member of The Archaeological Institute of America, Sisters in Crime, and is a Fellow of The Explorers Club.

Born and raised in MN, I moved to TN to get out of the cold when I was 25. I now live near Nashville TN, I have a wife and a 21yr old son. I've worked in retail most of my life. Over the last few years I had been doing podcasts as well, and had formed some friendships with a couple film makers that were going to do a film with the lead having Down syndrome.

During that time I found out that over 75% of prenatal diagnosis’s of Down syndrome are terminated, and it just broke my heart. So I learned everything I could about Down syndrome. And then I had an idea, an idea for a short film that showed what so many pregnant women hear, “I’m sorry, your baby has Down syndrome”, versus what they should hear, “Congratulations”. So I wrote my first short film, and it was released in July of 2023, called “More Than a Diagnosis”. It is only 3 min and 21 sec long on purpose because Down syndrome is a 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome. It has also won an award in NY Staten Island film festival.

Finding Love and Music

Mission Road was formed in the summer of 2021 when vocalist Christina Alexander teamed up with keyboard player and songwriter Elliot Simon. The name comes from the street on which Christina was living at the time up on the mountain outside of Harpers Ferry, WV. The band is still based in Harpers Ferry and has joined forces with pedal steel/steel guitarist Chris Thompson, bassist Paulie Coconuts and drummer/percussionist Frank Perez. Mission Road's music is a mix of originals and covers and is country music with influences that include roots rock, blues and pop.

Mission Road released their first album, All I Want to Say in December of 2023. The album contains 13 tracks, 10 of which were written by Elliot. It is available on all major retail platforms. Mission Road has performed at dozens of local venues as a duo, trio and full band.

In addition, both Christina and Elliot come from musical families. Christina's grandfather was a professional organist and recording artist.

Elliot's mother was a professional singer who gave it up to raise a family. Elliot's father was a songwriter with top 40 hits recorded by Nat King Cole and Brook Benton.

Richard Perkins Hsung was born in China in 1966 and was one of the first teens to leave China legally after Mao’s Cultural Revolution.
