I wrote a story about him wherein he ended up dead. Dead! I know! What was wrong with me? And it filled me with such consuming turmoil that my pure little conscience could not take it. I'm not kidding, I could not erase fast enough. When I recovered, I gave the old meany a full-body rash and no fingernails which was infinitely easier to live with (for me, not him). But, oh the power! I was utterly addicted. At ten, I held life (and tormenting skin conditions) on the end of my trusty #2 pencil. I never looked back. I was a writer. A little twisted, obviously, but a writer.

Have you ever gone all in on something? Something that means the world to you, but not all that much to anyone else? It’s a tricky place to be—that jumping off place into whatever-happens-it’s-on-me. I’ve always found it much easier to hand responsibility to someone else, and blame them when it fails. At least where my books are concerned. That’s my comfort zone. My job was writing. It was definitely not the mechanics of publishing, marketing, hustling, and selling myself. I've been quite happy to leave that to agents and editors and publishers and publicists and live my life as the semi-introvert that I imagine myself to be. And that worked out fine until my great agent left for an unturndownable opportunity, and my amazing editor abruptly left Simon & Schuster and Simon & Schuster didn't know what to do with me because I had no editor. 

​So...my novel and I became casualties of an industry peopled by people with bigger fish to fry. What was I going to do. Well… Here's the deal: The Duzy House of Mourning is my fish. Sometimes I can be found writing with an old-fashioned pen and paper at my keyboard. I have written prophetic songs, songs inspired by biblical revelation, and worship songs. I also love digging deeply into the Scripture, unearthing gems through word studies and putting the writings of the Bible into context. I also do tend to geek out a little on science. Many ask me how, since I am a woman of faith. My answer? Science helps us understand the natural world. Faith empowers us to live in the supernatural. Sometimes it helps to understand practical tools and steps as we take each step in our faith journey. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Sometimes, it can be both. 

In my book, Gentleness: It's Not What You Think, I bare my soul to share my journey of conquering obstacles and challenges in life by pairing faith and evidence-based principles supported by science and the Bible. It is my prayer that my book inspires and encourages others to take practical steps to overcome in their lives too. 

​Life isn't about staying the same. It's not about being perfect either. It's about being "ever changed." I believe in using every tool available so we can live as overcomers and in freedom. There are tools that have been researched by scientists. There is also faith. Both have value. But in my experience, it is when we taste and experience the glory of God that we are truly transformed. "Hello! My name is Chastity. I'm originally from the Midwest but now l live just outside of Atlanta, GA. My book, "From the Wilderness to the Narrow Path: A Journey of Surrender and Course Correction" is a story of how God got my attention, simplified my life, and showed me what it means to not conform to the pattern of this world, which included stepping away from organized religion. In addition to sharing my personal story, I include actionable steps that may help others on their journey.

Truthfully, my personal story doesn't involve overcoming anything that would be defined as extreme or extraordinary - it's just a real-life regular story that I believe others may relate to in some way or another. I share details from childhood through adulthood, multiple marriages, an affair, heartbreak, and ultimately surrender.

The journey to writing my book revved up when I asked God the question, "If you can't lie, why would you tell me to pray 'Thy kingdom come thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven' if it seems that I can't really have it?'" He answered, and my book is the result of that answer.

When it comes to our spiritual journey, there are so many paths to explore and it can be confusing and overwhelming. Religion has turned people off with all of the corruption, deception and layers of issues running rampant in churches. I believe fully in God's Word (The Bible) but I do not call myself a Christian. I am a follower of Jesus Christ and live solely based on His instruction to "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness." Basically I am on a journey that involves continually stripping away all of the things we have been conditioned to believe about how we should live our lives, and I let the Holy Spirit lead. It's not for the fainthearted, but my life sure is a lot more simple.

I love to laugh, and although the subject matter is serious business, I'm human and navigating this world just like everyone else. Walking in full relationship with God doesn't mean you need to be religious with a holier than thou attitude. I learn more and more each day what it truly means to be in this world but not of it."

"Thanks for showing some interest in my bio - hopefully my writing and speaking are far more interesting. I enjoyed a successful "first" career in the mysterious world of Corporate Finance, but creating and telling stories (and not about Finance) was my true love. My first full-length novel was the product of several years of very early mornings before work. It was a sci-fi work called Patriot Star, a hefty 800-page tome.

​My second novel, I Was Called Barabbas, had a very different genesis, growing as a list of scenes written at various times over several years and then finally organized into a coherent whole. Few efforts were made to utilize a mainline publisher for Barabbas, and it was ultimately published on Amazon in paperback and ebook formats using some design and editing talent from reedsy.com (from Lance Buckley and Robin Patchen). The audiobook version was soon added, voiced beautifully by Jim Cooper. One book turned into two (Pillars of Barabbas) and then a capstone to a trilogy (The Barabbas Legacy), which has been a wonderful and unexpected journey.

I've raised two children with my very patient wife, and we have two grandchildren. I knew it would be fun to have grandkids, but it's even better than I expected.

​I also enjoy watching and playing sports, which is good, because it means I'm not sitting all the time … and politics, which is probably bad. Politics are fascinating and painful, and they permeate more aspects of our lives than we could possibly ever realize. Human nature is what it is, and it hasn't fundamentally changed for thousands of years. Real life is at least as strange as fiction, which is why historical fiction is so interesting to research and write.

Writing is my second career, and I have a lot of stories rumbling around in my head waiting to get out. Sequels to Patriot Star are coming, as well as spin-offs to Barabbas. Several other projects, including The Barabbas Companion (a study guide) and a Christmas story, are also underway."

Kim Larson writes in a variety of genres, for the youngest to the oldest of readers. Her debut picture book, Goat’s Boat Won’t Float, will be released in the fall of 2024. She’s published a devotional-style Bible study, Unraveling Fairy Tales: Learning to Live Happily Ever After, and a dozen poems and short stories in regional anthologies. When she’s not writing, you may find Kim working in her garden or playing Sequence with her husband.

I grew up on a farm in Minnesota with loving parents and four younger siblings. Life in the 1960s and ’70s was much simpler, and my parents let us roam freely. The hayloft, farm animals, and my goofy siblings kept me entertained. Maybe that’s why I didn’t enjoy reading as a child—despite what this photo depicts.

Thankfully, that changed in fourth grade. My teacher, Mrs. Zimmerman, read wonderful books to the class. Two of my favorites were Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White, and From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg. Sensing my reluctance to read on my own, my teacher suggested I read The Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler. I loved these stories so much that I imagined becoming a writer someday.

That dream lay dormant for many years—until I had children. Every night I read to my two boys before bed. I also made up stories, casting Jordan and Jesse as heroes. During the daytime, I helped people’s dream of homeownership come true by originating mortgage loans. When my boys were grown, it was finally time to pursue my own dream!

When I’m not writing, you may find me searching my flowerbed for monarch caterpillars. (Watch one emerge from its chrysalis here!) I collect flower and vegetable seeds in the fall to plant the following spring. I’m frugal and a homebody, so strolling no farther than my garden for fresh lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes brings me joy. But nothing is more important to me than my faith, family, and friends.

"Mark graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio State in 1983. However, the economy was bad at that time, and he was unable to get a job in engineering. Over the next 14 months, he struggled working such jobs as door to door sales and maintenance work at a country club. It was not an easy time, but it was the time that G-d chose to reach out to Mark. Despite Mark’s selfishness, thoughtlessness, arrogance, and other character flaws, G-d pursued Mark to rescue him. G-d held Mark’s heart in His hand and said, “I am here.” Mark received Jesus into his heart as his L-rd and Savior, and everything changed.

In 1984, Mark took a job with the Ohio Department of Transportation and has worked in engineering ever since. He has worked on multiple high-profile highway projects and other public works projects. One of his ongoing responsibilities has been to write engineering reports and manuals.

In 1990, Mark married Noushi and his life took another turn for the better. Mark and Noushi have had the privilege to be parents to both a son, Paul, and a daughter, Leila (pictured above).

​Mark has led home churches with his wife and taught the Bible for many years. A few years ago, he felt the urge to write a book. He thought he would write a book about the Bible to Muslims, as he has studied the Qur’an for many years. Then one night, at 3:00 a.m., he awoke with many thoughts on his mind. He got up and typed out an entire chapter. But it was not for Muslims; it was for Jewish people. In that moment, and ever since, Mark has felt led by G-d to write this series of books. "Hello! My name is Chastity. I'm originally from the Midwest but now l live just outside of Atlanta, GA. My book, "From the Wilderness to the Narrow Path: A Journey of Surrender and Course Correction" is a story of how God got my attention, simplified my life, and showed me what it means to not conform to the pattern of this world, which included stepping away from organized religion. In addition to sharing my personal story, I include actionable steps that may help others on their journey.

Truthfully, my personal story doesn't involve overcoming anything that would be defined as extreme or extraordinary - it's just a real-life regular story that I believe others may relate to in some way or another. I share details from childhood through adulthood, multiple marriages, an affair, heartbreak, and ultimately surrender.

The journey to writing my book revved up when I asked God the question, "If you can't lie, why would you tell me to pray 'Thy kingdom come thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven' if it seems that I can't really have it?'" He answered, and my book is the result of that answer.

When it comes to our spiritual journey, there are so many paths to explore and it can be confusing and overwhelming. Religion has turned people off with all of the corruption, deception and layers of issues running rampant in churches. I believe fully in God's Word (The Bible) but I do not call myself a Christian. I am a follower of Jesus Christ and live solely based on His instruction to "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness." Basically I am on a journey that involves continually stripping away all of the things we have been conditioned to believe about how we should live our lives, and I let the Holy Spirit lead. It's not for the fainthearted, but my life sure is a lot more simple.

I love to laugh, and although the subject matter is serious business, I'm human and navigating this world just like everyone else. Walking in full relationship with God doesn't mean you need to be religious with a holier than thou attitude. I learn more and more each day what it truly means to be in this world but not of it."

I'm almost always found typing away at my computer after tucking my kids in at night. But...I don't always write at my computer. Sometimes I can be found writing with an old-fashioned pen and paper at my keyboard. I have written prophetic songs, songs inspired by biblical revelation, and worship songs. I love how music unlocks our hearts and can transport us into the presence of God.

I also love digging deeply into the Scripture, unearthing gems through word studies and putting the writings of the Bible into context. I also do tend to geek out a little on science. Many ask me how, since I am a woman of faith. My answer? Science helps us understand the natural world. Faith empowers us to live in the supernatural. Sometimes it helps to understand practical tools and steps as we take each step in our faith journey. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Sometimes, it can be both. 

In my book, Gentleness: It's Not What You Think, I bare my soul to share my journey of conquering obstacles and challenges in life by pairing faith and evidence-based principles supported by science and the Bible. It is my prayer that my book inspires and encourages others to take practical steps to overcome in their lives too. 

Life isn't about staying the same. It's not about being perfect either. It's about being "ever changed." I believe in using every tool available so we can live as overcomers and in freedom. There are tools that have been researched by scientists. There is also faith. Both have value. But in my experience, it is when we taste and experience the glory of God that we are truly transformed. It is my passion to allow God to work through me in order to connect people to His presence and glory so we can all be forever changed.

I lived much of my life in the dark until I was eventually forced into the light. It was through this painful process of being exposed to the light, and then learning to walk in it, that I discovered God's grace, gained freedom from the dark, and was empowered by the light of the gospel.

Most men today are in hiding. Isolation and loneliness has defined us as a generation, and we are disempowered by the lies of the darkness. As a result, we feel inadequate and incompetent at home and in our marriages. We lack a centered identity that would otherwise provide the confidence we need to lead our families well or maintain personal integrity.

I make my living as a lawyer, but what I do is take care of other people’s children. For more than 40 years, I have been working with traumatized children, starting when I was a preteen helping my parents with their summer camp and church ministries. In the years since, I have served as a juvenile court probation officer/social worker, group home parent, criminal prosecutor, non-profit volunteer and Board member, and attorney defending youth-serving organizations. 

‍My most important roles have been foster parent and stepparent. I never had biological children, but I have managed to collect 7 children and 10 grandchildren. Along the way, my foster children, stepchildren, and grandchildren have taught me the life lessons that are the core of my speaking and writing — the lessons that I wish I could have learned from a parenting manual rather than trial and error.

Parenting other people’s children has been the greatest challenge and the greatest joy of my life. I have made many mistakes, but I cannot imagine my life without them. Most important, I know that if I can do it, anyone can.

I never intended to help raise so many children. I started in social work, burned out, and went to law school. I did not fall in love until my 40s, when I finally married. In the interim, I channeled my social worker passion into volunteering with youth organizations and fostering abused children and teenagers. I deliberately never kept count of how many children I fostered in short-term placements, but two teenage girls stayed with me long-term and became part of my family.

Recently, Evan led a case study on the impact of best practices leading to school improvement efforts in charter schools, creating a video and toolkit for practitioners to learn about the practices found to be effective in improving school and student outcomes. In the year 2166 .....

"A post Second Civil War America is finally back on its feet. I make my living as a lawyer, but what I do is take care of other people’s children. For more than 40 years, I have been working with traumatized children, starting when I was a preteen helping my parents with their summer camp and church ministries. In the years since, I have served as a juvenile court probation officer/social worker, group home parent, criminal prosecutor, non-profit volunteer and Board member, and attorney defending youth-serving organizations. 

‍My most important roles have been foster parent and stepparent. I never had biological children, but I have managed to collect 7 children and 10 grandchildren. Along the way, my foster children, stepchildren, and grandchildren have taught me the life lessons that are the core of my speaking and writing — the lessons that I wish I could have learned from a parenting manual rather than trial and error.

Parenting other people’s children has been the greatest challenge and the greatest joy of my life. I have made many mistakes, but I cannot imagine my life without them. Most important, I know that if I can do it, anyone can.

I never intended to help raise so many children. I started in social work, burned out, and went to law school. I did not fall in love until my 40s, when I finally married. In the interim, I channeled my social worker passion into volunteering with youth organizations and fostering abused children and teenagers. I deliberately never kept count of how many children I fostered in short-term placements, but two teenage girls stayed with me long-term and became part of my family.

I thought at the age of 46 I was too old, so happy through coaching I realized age is just a number. I decided to get out there and do what I always wanted to do and get on that stage and compete. When I was a teenager, my grandfather was hospitalized for a short time as a terminal patient. I remember being tasked with suctioning the phlegm from his lungs with a special cannula. That brief experience gave me a sense of the power of healthcare, reinforcing my career goal of being a doctor. Much later, as a medical student and then fully-minted MD, the in-hospital battle waged against death combined with the knowledge of its ultimate inevitability, created the first stirrings of existential confusion – Was what I did enough? Did what I do matter? The answers can be simple and complicated at the same time, a truth known to anyone who interacts with toddlers and their Whys. 

Regarding kids, I am a changed (and better) person through being a mom, and though that role raises more existential questions than ever before, I am graced with that identity by two little ones (no matter how big they are!).

When I was a teenager, my grandfather was hospitalized for a short time as a terminal patient. I remember being tasked with suctioning the phlegm from his lungs with a special cannula. That brief experience gave me a sense of the power of healthcare, reinforcing my career goal of being a doctor. Much later, as a medical student and then fully-minted MD, the in-hospital battle waged against death combined with the knowledge of its ultimate inevitability, created the first stirrings of existential confusion – Was what I did enough? Did what I do matter? The answers can be simple and complicated at the same time, a truth known to anyone who interacts with toddlers and their Whys. 

Regarding kids, I am a changed (and better) person through being a mom, and though that role raises more existential questions than ever before, I am graced with that identity by two little ones (no matter how big they are!).
