In this episode of Paradelta Strategy, we tackle a question many business owners are asking in today’s fast-moving, digital-first world: do slogans, taglines and catchphrases still work, or have they become outdated?

Host Ron Fiedler, from the Podcast City Business and Lifestyle Network, is joined by resident fortnightly expert and co-host Dr Tony Aitchison from Paradelta Strategy to unpack the strategic value behind these powerful branding tools.

Together, they explore why some slogans stay with us for decades while others disappear almost overnight.

From iconic Australian examples such as “Not Happy Jan” and “Which Bank?”, to global brand statements like Nike’s “Just Do It” and McDonald’s “I’m Lovin’ It”, Ron and Dr Tony explain what makes a slogan memorable, effective and timeless. They discuss how the best slogans work at a subconscious level, telling a story about the brand without feeling forced or overly sales-driven.

The conversation also dives into whether slogans are still relevant in an era dominated by social media, short attention spans and constant content. Dr Tony explains that slogans absolutely still matter, but how they are delivered has changed.

Audio and visual storytelling now play a far greater role than printed words alone, particularly through video, radio, and digital platforms.

Listeners will gain practical insight into the rules behind creating an effective slogan or tagline.

These include understanding your target audience, keeping the message short and simple, aiming for four to five words, avoiding trends that quickly date, and ensuring cultural relevance when operating across different markets.

Dr Tony also highlights the importance of research, testing ideas through focus groups, and being cautious of slogans that are too similar to competitors.

The episode also explores the risks of poor branding decisions, including confusion in the marketplace, loss of brand equity, and the dangers of copying or imitating existing campaigns.

Ron and Dr Tony discuss trademark considerations, influencer risks, and why authenticity and social proof matter more than ever.

As the final Paradelta Strategy episode for 2025, Ron and Dr Tony take a moment to reflect on the year and thank listeners for their continued support.

They encourage business owners to use the end-of-year period to review what has worked, what has not, and how strategic branding decisions can support growth in 2026 and beyond.

If you are considering developing or refining a slogan, tagline or catchphrase for your business, or if you would like expert guidance on brand positioning and strategy, you can contact Dr Tony Aitchison at Paradelta Strategy by

How LEGO Rebuilt Its Empire: A Masterclass in Business Repositioning

In this episode of Paradelta Strategy, we explore one of the greatest business turnarounds of the modern era: how LEGO went from the brink of collapse to becoming one of the most recognisable and profitable brands in the world.

Many of us grew up with LEGO. Its bright colours, simple bricks and endless creative possibilities shaped childhoods across generations. Yet few people realise that by 2003, LEGO was facing a financial crisis so severe that bankruptcy seemed almost unavoidable. Sales had plummeted, competition was increasing, the market had shifted, and the brand had lost its direction.

Host Ron Fiedler, from the Podcast City Business and Lifestyle Network, is joined by resident expert and co-host Dr Tony Aitchison from Paradelta Strategy to unpack exactly how LEGO turned everything around – and the powerful lessons business owners can apply to their own companies.

Dr Tony explains how LEGO’s problems stemmed from a changing marketplace, the rise of digital entertainment, cheaper competitors, and a loss of clarity about what their customers actually wanted. Children were becoming less imaginative in their play, manufacturing alternatives were appearing worldwide, and LEGO’s once-dominant position was fading fast.

The turnaround began when LEGO returned to its core strengths. They reduced their bloated product lines, regained financial control, and reconnected with the customers who loved the brand. One of the most significant realisations was that the children who grew up with LEGO were now adults, and adults were willing to invest in premium, nostalgic and highly detailed sets. This led to major partnerships with global franchises like Star Wars, Marvel, Disney and Harry Potter, transforming LEGO into a cultural icon for all ages.

LEGO also rebuilt its brand equity through storytelling, entertainment and emotion. Television series such as Ninjago, blockbuster films such as The LEGO Movie, and the internationally recognised song Everything is Awesome brought the brand back into global consciousness. LEGO was no longer just a toy; it became an experience and a lifestyle.

Ron and Dr Tony explore what small and medium-sized businesses can learn from LEGO’s strategic repositioning. They discuss the importance of understanding your customer, updating your marketing, adapting with changing times, and ensuring that brand identity evolves alongside market demand. Businesses that fail to adapt risk becoming the next Blockbuster or Kodak – but those that listen, innovate and reposition themselves can unlock extraordinary levels of growth.

Whether you are facing declining sales, unsure of your next step or simply wanting to future-proof your company, this episode provides practical insights you can implement right away.

In this episode of Paradelta Strategy, we explore one of the most important questions business owners eventually face.

After building a successful business, establishing steady sales, refining your systems and creating a strong team, what should you do next?

It is a common moment of uncertainty. Many people reach a point where everything works well, but the future beyond that point is unclear.

Host Ron Fiedler, from the Podcast City Business and Lifestyle Network, is joined by resident expert and co-host Dr Tony Aitchison from Paradelta Strategy to break down exactly how to plan your next phase of growth using the Horizon Model.

Together they discuss how businesses can move beyond day-to-day operations and begin looking ahead with purpose, clarity and confidence.

Dr Tony explains why long-term planning is essential, not optional. Too many business owners fall into the trap of thinking only in the short term.

While everything may feel comfortable now, industries evolve, competitors emerge and technology continues to shift.

Without a clear plan, even the strongest businesses can lose momentum. As Dr Tony points out, the danger signs often appear only after it is too late.

Throughout the conversation, Ron and Dr Tony highlight well-known examples of companies that failed to innovate or adapt, such as Blockbuster and Kodak.

They also discuss the Horizon Model in simple, practical terms.

Horizon One focuses on what can be improved immediately to strengthen the core business.

Horizon Two explores emerging opportunities that can spark the next wave of growth.

Horizon Three looks further ahead and considers the future possibilities that could reshape the business entirely.

Dr Tony offers real-world examples of how this framework applies in practice. From new revenue streams and acquisitions to innovation and overseas expansion, the Horizon Model helps owners recognise what is possible and understand how to prepare for it financially, operationally and strategically.

He also emphasises that businesses should not wait until things go wrong before planning. The best time to think about your future direction is when everything is going well.

Listeners will learn how to assess their growth potential, evaluate new opportunities, protect their business from decline and create a long-term vision that is both achievable and financially sustainable.

Dr Tony also explains how he works with companies directly, offering an external perspective and clear analysis to help business owners understand their challenges, opportunities and blind spots.

The key takeaway from this episode is simple. A successful business today does not guarantee success tomorrow.

Planning early, understanding your horizons and preparing for what comes next can be the difference between long-term growth and gradual decline. By applying the Horizon Model, businesses can stay competitive, adaptable and ready for whatever the future brings.

Let’s be honest — when most people hear the word “tax”, very few of us jump for joy. Whether you’re running a small business, freelancing, or growing a company, tax can often feel confusing, unavoidable and, at times, frustrating. Yet understanding it, planning for it and managing it correctly can make a huge difference to your cash flow, growth and peace of mind.

In this episode of Paradelta Strategy, host Ron Fiedler from the Podcast City Business and Lifestyle Network is joined by our resident expert and co-host Dr Tony Aitchison from Paradelta Strategy to tackle one of the most common questions in business: How can I manage and reduce my tax — legally and sensibly?

Together, we break down what tax really is, where it goes, and why paying it is essential for a thriving economy. Dr Tony explains that tax isn’t just money disappearing into thin air — it funds vital infrastructure, hospitals, roads, and services that help businesses operate and communities grow. We also discuss the different types of tax that affect businesses, including income tax, company tax, GST, and payroll obligations.

The conversation moves into the importance of having a clear tax strategy. Dr Tony highlights the value of forward planning — from equipment purchases and legitimate deductions to research and development (R&D) incentives that can help businesses innovate and grow while minimising their tax burden. He also cautions against unethical shortcuts or tax haven schemes that can damage your reputation and put your business at risk.

Listeners will learn why maintaining accurate records, working closely with an accountant, and planning for future growth are essential. We also talk about how good financial management builds credibility with banks and investors, which can be crucial if you ever need funding or wish to sell your business.

As always, Dr Tony leaves us with simple but powerful advice: pay your taxes, do it ethically, and plan strategically so you can retain profits for future expansion rather than depleting them too quickly. Smart tax management isn’t about avoiding your obligations — it’s about positioning your business for long-term success.

This episode of Paradelta Strategy is a must-listen for business owners and professionals who want to understand how to handle tax with confidence, keep their finances healthy, and make smarter decisions for growth.

In this episode, Dr Tony Aitchison from Paradelta Strategy delves into the intricacies of product manufacturing with Ron Fiedler from Podcast City Radio.

As a business growth strategist with Paradelta Strategy, Dr Tony's goal is to equip aspiring business owners and entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge to transform their innovative ideas into viable products.

We explore the pivotal question: should you manufacture your product in-house or outsource to a contract manufacturer? This fundamental decision hinges on various factors, including the complexity of your prototype, the financial implications of self-manufacturing, and the specific needs of your business.

The manufacturing process is not merely about choosing a path; it is laden with considerations like quality control and continuous costs.

I guide listeners through the costs associated with both self-manufacturing and engaging a contract manufacturer, shedding light on the often-overlooked expenses such as machinery, raw materials, packaging, and compliance with industry regulations.

I stress the importance of informed decision-making and understanding the market fit of your product before initiating the manufacturing process.

An essential aspect of our discussion is navigating distribution after manufacturing.

I explain the various options available, ranging from self-distribution to utilising third-party logistics (3PL) providers, and the potential benefits and drawbacks of each.

We highlight the significance of storage solutions and how partnering with a contract manufacturer can sometimes alleviate the burden of inventory management.

Furthermore, we touch upon the critical matter of regulatory compliance, particularly for products aimed at international markets.

Each country has its own set of regulations, and the process can often seem daunting. We emphasise how having a planned approach can ease this journey and how I can assist entrepreneurs in understanding and negotiating these complexities.

We also discuss the common pitfalls that entrepreneurs face, such as the tendency to rush into product development without sufficient market research. I advocate for a methodology that prioritises understanding customer needs and market demand, rather than solely focusing on product creation. This strategic approach can significantly enhance the chances of a product's success.

Lastly, we cover financing options for budding entrepreneurs, including grants, crowdfunding, and equity sales. I provide insights into the various sources of funding available in Australia, emphasising the importance of matching funds and leveraging government incentives like the Industry Growth Program.

Throughout this episode, we offer key takeaways that underscore the necessity of thorough planning, market validation, and the various pathways available for product development and manufacturing.

My hope is that listeners will walk away with a clearer understanding of how to navigate the complex landscape of manufacturing and bring their innovative ideas to life effectively. For anyone looking to explore these avenues further, we encourage reaching out through the resources available at Paradelta Strategy.

For more guidance on tailoring manufacturing a product for your business needs, you can connect with Dr Tony Aitchison at Paradelta Strategy via www.paradeltastrategy.com.au, by email at hello@paradeltastrategy.com.au, or by phone on 0408 697 626.

Artificial intelligence has become one of the most talked about topics of our time. From Hollywood’s killer robots to bold claims of machines taking over the workplace, the hype often overshadows the reality.

In this episode of Paradelta Strategy, host Ron Fiedler from the Podcast City Business & Lifestyle Network is joined by resident expert and cohost Dr Tony Aitchison from Paradelta Strategy to bring clarity to what AI really means for business.

Together, we move beyond the science fiction and explore how AI is already transforming industries in practical ways. Dr Tony explains how artificial intelligence, at its core, is a powerful software solution designed to automate repetitive tasks, streamline processes, and support decision-making – but always with human oversight at the centre.

Rather than eliminating jobs, AI has the potential to reshape roles, free employees from menial work, and create new opportunities, much like the shift businesses experienced when computers first appeared in the workplace.

Throughout the conversation, we share real-world examples of AI in action: predictive analytics that anticipate sales trends, preventative maintenance that avoids costly breakdowns, customer service chatbots that enhance response times, and medical research that speeds up drug discovery. At the same time, we highlight the need for caution, acknowledging risks such as cybersecurity threats, data misuse and the temptation to cut corners by letting AI do all the work without critical input.

The key message is simple: businesses should not fear AI. Instead, they should embrace it as a tool for efficiency, growth and innovation.

Whether through off-the-shelf solutions or custom development, AI offers ways to improve profitability today while inspiring entirely new business models for the future.

By the end of this episode, listeners will walk away with a clearer understanding of what AI is – and what it isn’t – along with practical insights on how to start applying it in their own businesses.

Dr Tony encourages every business owner to stay competitive by exploring where AI fits into their strategy, and to approach it not as a passing trend but as an essential investment in future success.

Dealing with Nasty Conflict — Internal or External?

Hosted by Ron Fiedler (Podcast City) and Dr. Tony Aitchison (Paradelta Strategy – Resident Expert)

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Tony Aitchison, our resident business growth strategist from Paradelta Strategy, to unpack one of the most challenging aspects of leadership: managing conflict.

Together, we navigate the complexities of internal vs. external conflict, giving business leaders and owners the insights they need to respond effectively. We begin by exploring how identifying the true source of conflict — whether it arises within the organisation or from external pressures — is crucial in shaping the right response.

Dr. Aitchison shares his expertise in recognising early warning signs, from falling productivity to low workplace morale, and explains why fostering a positive company culture is essential for preventing tensions from escalating.

Listeners will discover practical strategies for tackling internal disputes with empathy and tact, including holding calm, blame-free conversations in neutral settings to encourage openness.

Dr. Aitchison also provides guidance on addressing external conflicts — whether with clients, suppliers, or competitors — using the same principles of patience, listening, and structured communication.

He introduces techniques such as “giving the cookie” and highlights the power of an open-door policy to maintain trust and protect relationships.

Our discussion also touches on building long-term organisational resilience. We explore the risks of over-reliance on a single client or supplier, and the importance of diversification and forward planning to avoid potential crises.

By the end of this episode, you’ll walk away with actionable takeaways, including:

Regulating emotions and staying composed during high-pressure situations.

Approaching conflict as an opportunity to strengthen relationships, not weaken them.

Under-promising and over-delivering to set realistic expectations and avoid unnecessary tension.

Packed with real-world advice, this episode is an essential listen for anyone looking to master conflict management, safeguard their business, and lead with confidence.

In this episode of Paradelta Strategy, Dr. Tony Aitchison delves into the crucial topic of sustainability, emphasizing its significance in the face of environmental challenges. Sustainability goes beyond being a mere buzzword; it represents a profound shift in our values and actions, encompassing ethics, responsibility, and a commitment to the future. Dr. Tony highlights that sustainability, in this context, pertains to the environmental impact of products and services, rather than a company's growth.

Embracing sustainability offers substantial benefits, including positive impacts on a company's financial performance. By adopting measures like LED lighting and energy-efficient technologies, businesses can both benefit the environment and save costs. Dr. Tony also points out the potential for monetizing waste products, using the skincare industry as an example. Repurposing waste materials and embracing recycling can turn waste into valuable assets.

The challenge lies in balancing consumer demands and financial viability while adhering to government policies, especially regarding hazardous waste disposal. Aligning with government regulations and maintaining authenticity in sustainability goals is vital for brand reputation and avoiding fines.

Dr Tony emphasizes that sustainability is relevant to all industries, and those failing to adopt sustainable practices risk losing market share. Whether through technology adoption, reduced paper usage, or alternatives to single-use plastics, businesses can reduce their environmental footprint.

In attracting investment, businesses can highlight their sustainability efforts and growth potential to appeal to environmentally conscious investors. Integrating sustainability into a brand's identity can set a company apart and attract eco-conscious consumers.

Looking ahead, Dr. Tony foresees that sustainability will become more cost-effective with advancing technology. What was once costly is now becoming a profitable strategy, driving innovation and growth.

In conclusion, sustainability is no longer optional but a necessity. Businesses must embrace it to secure a brighter future for themselves, stakeholders, and future generations. By reducing waste, adopting energy-efficient practices, and aligning with consumer demands, businesses can protect the environment and enhance their financial performance.

Remember, sustainability is not a passing trend; it is the path to a better world for all. Let us unite to create a future that is both profitable and environmentally conscious.

On this new episode Dr Tony Aitchison, business growth strategist from Paradelta Strategy, joined Ron Fiedler Podcast City Radio to discuss the importance of profitability and sales, as well as having a happy and cohesive workplace to ensure productivity and avoid potential insolvency.

Employee happiness is an essential factor to consider when running any business.

A restaurant chain recently closed down in Australia due to its focus on bad customer service, showing how customer satisfaction can be affected by employee happiness.

Dr Tony believes that a positive environment is key to ensuring employee happiness, and this starts with figuring out the root cause of any negativity. Common causes of negativity in the workplace include micromanaging, which can lead to employees feeling disrespected and not allowed to do their job properly.

Creating an environment where employees can feel respected and fulfilled is essential for any business to succeed. The episode focuses on the importance of trust and empowerment in the workplace. Dr Tony talks about how managers need to trust their staff and not try to take over and do the work themselves.

They need to be inspiring leaders who are able to lead their teams in a positive and creative way. This can be done by providing positive reinforcement and feedback, and not micromanaging their employees. By showing trust and providing positive words, managers can help create an environment of happiness and motivation for their team.

Dr Tony and Ron discussed obstacles that companies face when trying to improve employee happiness. One obstacle is a saboteur, which is a person who is actively destructive and negative in the workplace. They are not open to progress, improvement, or doing work, and they communicate in a disrespectful manner. To combat this, employers need to be encouraging and positive, as this will motivate employees and make them more enthusiastic to come to work. Additionally, employers need to ensure they are speaking to their employees in a respectful manner, as this will help foster positive relationships.

Welcome to a new podcast episode with Ron Fiedler from Podcast City Radio and Tony Aitchison from Paradelta Strategy, in this episode Dr Tony discusses with Ron decisions trees and the financial year ahead.

Dt Tony joined Podcast City radio to discuss tips for the end of the financial year. He recommends outlining a budget, including expenses for salaries and marketing and sales retention strategies.

He also highlighted the importance of having a little extra cash on hand for unexpected expenses. Dr Tony encourages business owners to think critically and plan ahead to ensure their success. Dr Tony discusses how businesses should save money during the end of the financial year.

He advises businesses to take advantage of tax minimization and plan for future growth opportunities by setting aside extra cash in case of an unexpected opportunity. He explains that this is an important part of budgeting.

Dr Tony also talks to us about decision trees and how they can help businesses make the best decisions for their business. He encourages businesses to consider all their options and to make decisions that will benefit them in the long run.

Decision trees require the user to consider the possible outcomes of each decision and the potential cash return from each decision. This strategy is used by many people but is not known by everyone. Ron asked Dr Tony how to determine the variables or factors to include in the decision tree model. Dr Tony explained that it takes time to work out the decisions that need to be made about the future of the company. He also stated that it is important to start at the beginning and to think about the future instead of just focusing on the present.

Dr Tony suggested that the process begins with selecting the decision that needs to be made, and then expanding on the associated questions that will grow and grow to work out the likelihood of a financial turn.

He cautioned against being overly positive and biased in the decision-making process. He noted that it can be used in any business and that data can be helpful in fleshing out the decision tree. He also noted that the next step after deciding would be to develop a full implementation plan. Finally, he noted that while AI can help to some extent, it cannot take into account the nuances of the situation or any personal considerations. Overall, decision trees can be a helpful tool in making informed decisions, but it is important to keep the personal and nuanced aspects in mind.

Welcome to a new episode with Ron Fiedler and Dr Tony Aitchison.

With years of experience under his belt, Dr Tony can advise you and help grow your business to take it to the next level. In our conversation, we discussed the importance of business networking and how to make the most of it.

The Importance of Business Networking

When asked why business networking is so important, Dr Tony explained that it's an opportunity to meet fellow colleagues, industry partners, and business connections.

Networking can lead to additional business and help your business grow. In fact, many businesses rely on networking as their sole form of lead generation.

Finding the Right Balance

While networking is crucial for business growth, it's essential not to get bogged down by attending too many events.

Dr Tony suggests going to enough events to make connections and generate leads, but not so many that it becomes overwhelming or unproductive.

Choosing the Right Networking Events

Instead of attending networking events for the sake of going, Dr Tony recommends focusing on events that are relevant to your business and sales goals. By targeting events where you're likely to make valuable connections and generate leads, you'll make the most of your networking efforts.

Business networking is a powerful tool for growing your business and making valuable connections.

By attending the right events and striking a balance between networking and other business activities, you can optimize your networking efforts and take your business to the next level.

Welcome back to another episode with Ron Fiedler from Podcast City Radio and Dr Tony Aitchison from Paradelta Strategy

Dr. Tony, talk to us today about the difficult decision to let employees go.

As a CEO or business leader, you often find yourself in a lonely position, unable to have open conversations with others in the organization about sensitive matters.

One such matter is the decision to let employees go, whether it's due to poor performance or a lack of available positions. This can be an emotional issue, especially if the employee is well-liked within the company.

It's important to recognize that letting employees go is sometimes necessary for the growth and success of the business. However, it can be challenging to determine when it's time to make that decision.

Dr. Tony talks about when we know it's time to let someone go.

There are several negative factors to consider when making this decision. poor performance is a clear indicator that it may be time to let an employee go. Additionally, if there is no longer a job available for the employee, it's important to make the tough decision to let them go.

However, it's also crucial to consider the impact of this decision on the rest of the organization. If the employee is well-liked and their departure may cause unrest among the remaining staff, it's important to handle the situation delicately and with transparency.

In some cases, it may be necessary to let go of an employee who has been with the company for a long time, even if they are considered part of the "furniture." This can be a difficult decision, but it's important to prioritize the overall health and growth of the business.

The decision to let employees go is never an easy one. However, by considering the factors mentioned by Dr Tony Aitchison in this episode, business leaders can make informed decisions that prioritize the success and growth of their organizations.

Remember, if you need assistance with these difficult decisions or other aspects of business growth, Dr Tony can be reached at 0408 697 626 or hello@paradeltastrategy.com.au.

In this episode, Dr Tony Aitichson from Paradelta Strategy talks to Ron Fiedler from Podcast City Radio about the importance of preparation when it comes to interviewing candidates for a job.

Dr Tony outlines the importance of being prepared, noting that it is respectful to know who you are interviewing and that it is important to remember that the interview is a two-way street and the candidate may not want to work with the company if there is any display of disrespect.

Additionally, people now care about the kind of company they work for, so it is important to show respect even if the job is the best on the market. In this conversation, Ron and Dr Tony discuss the importance of researching a potential candidate prior to an interview.

They discuss how to go about this research and ways to use the Internet to find out more about a candidate.

Specifically, they suggest looking at the candidate's LinkedIn profile, conducting a Google search for the candidate, and seeing what kind of presence the candidate has on the Internet.

They also suggest that for executive-level positions, having no presence on the Internet can be a red flag and should be taken into consideration when assessing a candidate.

Ultimately, research and preparation are key to finding the best candidate for the job. The episode discussed the importance of properly preparing for an interview, such as making sure that the HR team is well-informed on the position and requirements before conducting initial interviews.

It was suggested that in order to avoid wasting time, the interviewer should pay attention to the candidate's body language, tone of voice, use of I versus we statements, and whether they are using too many keywords without demonstrating real knowledge.

Additionally, it was suggested that psychological tests such as Myers Briggs should not be relied upon, as people are often fluid in their behaviour and the test is outdated, instead, the interviewer should focus on body language, tone of voice, and use of I versus we statements. In this conversation, Dr. Tony Atison from Parrot Delta Strategy and the interviewer discussed the different strategies to evaluate potential candidates during the hiring process. Dr. Tony suggested that the best way to evaluate a candidate is to gauge their tone of voice, their I and we mentality, and how they treat other staff members.

Dr Tony also discussed the pros and cons of group interviews versus individual interviews, stressing that individual interviews are better for roles that are not sales-related.

Finally, Dr Tony suggested that employers can have video conferencing interviews and record them for further evaluation.

Dr Tony Aitchison is a business growth strategist from Paradelta Strategy. He advises businesses on how to take their operations to the next level. Dr Tony was on the line with Podcast City radio to discuss how to find new staff for businesses.

He explained that business owners often make the mistake of believing that they are the only ones who can do the job well.

However, it is essential to delegate responsibility to others in order to reduce stress and workload.

When looking for new staff, the focus should be on finding people who can provide benefits to the business and who can lighten the workload.

This will help to create a more successful and efficient business in the long run. This conversation is about the importance and benefits of hiring new staff members for businesses, large and small.

Dr Tony explains that hiring new staff members can relieve the stress of other employees, increase employee morale and bring in new ideas and increase skill force to the business.

Furthermore, it can also create new capacity for new work and grow the business’s revenue.

Dr Tony also advises that businesses should first consider the architectural structure and type of staff members needed before hiring.

This would help ensure that the new staff member is the right fit for the company and can assist in growing the business rather than becoming a burden or a cost.

The conversation is about the importance of getting new staff members in a business and how the landscape of getting employees or finding a job has changed.

Dr Tony notes that new staff members bring in fresh energy, advice, and ideas and can offer advice to their employers.

They also bring new processes from their previous employers and can help the business grow stronger.

When looking for new staff members 20 years ago people would have advertised in the newspaper, but now with technology and the internet, the landscape of getting employees or finding a job has changed significantly.

In Australia, the most popular way to find new employees is through the website Seek, where employers can sift through CVs submitted by potential applicants. Another option is to use a recruiter, although this can be a gamble as they may have a predetermined agenda.

The more recent method is using LinkedIn, where employers can advertise job postings and use the platform's search engine to find people with the right skill set. However, this system can be overloaded with applications due to automation.

Ultimately, the best way to find the right employee is up to the employer.

Dr Tony Aitchison is a business growth strategist from Paradelta Strategy.

In this episode, Dr Tony discussed with Ron Fiedler from Podcast City Radio how board games can teach us essential business lessons.

Board games can be a great teaching tool as they involve multiple players, rules and the ultimate goal of winning.

Board games can be used to teach problem-solving, collaboration, strategic thinking, prioritization and communication.

Dr Tony believes board games are a great way to practice and hone these skills and can be a fun and engaging way to learn. The episode discusses how board games can be used as an effective teaching tool to help strategize and compete with opponents.

This strategy can be applied to the real world, with rules that everyone must abide by such as moral, legal and tax obligations.

Examples of board games that teach strategy are rock, paper, scissors, chess and Monopoly. The conversation also highlights how Monopoly can be disliked as it usually results in one person losing a lot of money while the other person wins a lot.

Board games are an effective way to teach and strategize in order to come out on top.

Ron and Dr Tony talk about game theory and how it can be applied to business.

They discussed how game theory is cause and effect and how it can be used to map out decisions.

Chess was discussed as an example, as it requires players to think multiple steps ahead in order to win. Monopoly and Risk were also addressed as board games that can teach us strategies.

They mentioned that you can't always go in full hammer and tongs as you can end up bankrupt.

The example of hardware stores was also brought up, with Masters stores trying to compete against the bigger player Bunnings.

Game theory, in essence, is about maneuvering your competitor to take the desired action, and understanding when to make the move at the right time.

The conversation discusses how Bunnings, an Australian hardware store, applied game theory to the situation when Woolworths attempted to launch a competing store, Masters. The launch of Masters was unsuccessful, and Bunnings were able to benefit from this by taking advantage of the infrastructure and locations built by Masters.

For example, the Adelaide airport location was purchased for a song, by Bunnings..

The conversation highlights how important it is for businesses to consider their competitors' moves and how to benefit from them if they lose. This is a key part of game theory that can be used strategically to help businesses grow.

Dr Tony Aitchison is a business growth strategist from Paradelta Strategy, offering advice and guidance to help grow businesses.

On this episode of mornings with Ron Fiedler on Podcast City Radio, where he is discussing the differences between insourcing and outsourcing.

Dr Tony explains that managing time is key and that outsourcing is a great option when there is too much on the plate and not enough people or capability to complete it.

However, if a business is already good at what it does, it may be more beneficial to insource. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the differences between the two before making a decision. Insourcing and outsourcing are two distinct methods for achieving tasks and expanding a business. Insourcing is when a business utilizes its own employees and resources to complete a project or expand into a new region.

Outsourcing is when a business uses a third party to help with time management and scaling. Both methods have their own advantages and disadvantages, and which one is more cost-effective depends on the routine task at hand.

For example, if a business needs to do data entry, it may be more cost-effective to pay its own employees to do the job, as they may cost less than an outsourcing company. Ultimately, businesses should consider both options before deciding which course of action to take. The conversation discussed the advantages of outsourcing versus employing a highly skilled individual.

The advantages of outsourcing are that it is usually cheaper, and the service provider can work on projects when the business is on holiday. Outsourcing is used for mundane tasks that do not require a lot of skill, and companies typically outsource digital marketing, customer support, payroll, and human resources. In addition, there is a financial benefit due to not needing to pay for employee entitlements.

Insourcing is used for tasks that are highly secretive and require intellectual property. There are companies that specialize in outsourcing, and they typically have set standard services.

Outsourcing services are a great way for businesses to free up time and resources by delegating tasks to someone else. Services such as virtual assistants are popular in Australia, as they can provide customized services and often have similar time zones to the business. This can be especially beneficial for those who have hit a growth barrier and need extra help with tasks that cannot be automated.

Sites such as Fiverr and Upwork offer project-based services, but may not be reliable or of high quality. It is recommended to hire a virtual assistant for more individualized and higher-quality services.

Dr Tony Aitchison joined Ron Fiedler from Podcast City Radio to discuss business advisory.

He is a business growth strategist from Paradelta Strategy and offers advice to help businesses reach their full potential.

The conversation focused on the differences between just in time and just in case.

Just in time is when businesses provide products or services when they are requested, while just in case is when businesses keep a stock of products or services in anticipation of the customer's needs.

In order to be successful, businesses should be able to recognize which approach is best for their needs. Dr Tony provides guidance for businesses to make this decision. Just in case and Just in time are two distinct inventory management strategies.

Just in case is a traditional model that involves buying more than what is needed in anticipation of a certain demand.

This can lead to overstocking and excess inventory which may need to be offloaded at the end of the selling period.

Just in Time is a newer model which involves predicting the demand and buying only what is needed.

This helps reduce inventory costs and improve cash flow. The pros and cons of Just in case include overstocking and the need to offload extra inventory, whereas Just in time offers cost savings and better cash flow.

The conversation discussed the differences between just-in-time (JIT) and just-in-case (JIC) inventory management. JIT is when goods are bought and sold as needed, whereas JIC involves having goods stored in a warehouse for a longer period of time. JIT is beneficial because it saves money on warehouse costs, while JIC is better for businesses that have expensive goods or goods that have a high lead time.

Ultimately, which model is better depends on the business, the product, and the supply chain.

Ron and Tony discusses the pros and cons of two inventory management strategies,

It is suggested that JIT is better for larger companies that have a lot of warehouse space and own it, as it does not incur extra expenses. JIT is best for companies that have products with a short period of high demand and can be predicted, as it reduces the amount of excess inventory. It is noted that companies that use JIC to assist their supply chain may experience a decrease in their financial situation if the company they are working with shifts to JIT.

Finally, it is suggested that newer companies may be better off using JIC, as they do not have enough data to predict precisely with JIT.

Dr Tony Aitchison is a business growth strategist from Paradelta Strategy and joined Ron Fiedler on Podcast City Radio.

Dr Tony provides advice and help to businesses to help them reach their goals and take them to the next level.

Ron talks to Dr Tony about the Holy Moly Group's entertainment precinct in Rundle Mall, Adelaide.

Dr Tony commented on how Adelaide is always developing and growing, and that it's a livable city that is seeing a lot of government and private projects.

He concluded that it's all about living life and enjoying it.

The discussion focused on the concept of first mover advantage, which is when a business introduces a new product or service to the market before any competitors.

First movers have the benefit of establishing strong brand recognition and product loyalty before other entrants come in.

However, there are also drawbacks associated with being the first mover, such as spending a lot of money to develop the product and educate the market on how it works.

On the other hand, second movers can benefit from the first mover's pioneering work and bring their own innovations to the market.

Ultimately, businesses must decide whether it is best for them to be first or second movers based on their individual circumstances.

The conversation discussed the advantages of being the first mover versus being the second mover in the market.

The first mover has the advantage of brand recognition and gaining market share, as well as the potential to gain intellectual property rights.

However, the second mover has the advantage of being able to learn from the first mover's mistakes and create a better product.

They can also take advantage of opportunities in other countries that the first mover has not yet reached.

In general, the second mover has the potential for greater growth due to the established market from the first mover.

Ultimately, both first and second movers have their own advantages and disadvantages, and it is up to the company to decide which route is best for them.

Dr. Tony Aitchison from Paradelta Strategy discussed the advantages of being a first mover versus a second mover.

He explains that the second mover has the advantage of not having to do all of the research and development that the first mover has done, and therefore can capture more of the market with a better profit margin and better appeal to investors.

He gave examples such as MySpace and Facebook, Yahoo and Google and Jasper and Chat GPT.

He also discussed what is needed to be successful as a first-mover and as a second-mover, including doing research on the first-mover, product development, customer acquisition, appeal to investors, pricing, and degree of innovation. He then discussed the possibility of first and second movers acquiring each other.

Dr. Tony Aitchison from Paradelta Strategy was featured on Podcast City Radio to discuss the difference between Zebras and Unicorns in business. Zebras and Unicorns are often used to describe different types of companies and how they are managed. Zebras typically focus on growth and profitability, while Unicorns focus on raising funds, vulnerability, and long-term growth. Dr. Tony explained that Unicorns are companies that have achieved great amounts of valuation and although some of these companies have been around for more than five years, they are still considered unicorns.

The conversation focuses on the difference between a Zebra and a Unicorn event when starting a business. Generally, a Unicorn event is when a venture capitalist is looking for a return on investment within five years and a Zebra event is when a business takes a slower and steadier approach to growth. It is difficult to achieve a Unicorn event and most businesses should focus on the Zebra approach to avoid failure. Investors are interested in getting their return; if a company cannot provide it, they are unlikely to invest in future ventures.

A Unicorn business is rare but has a low probability of success due to its disjointed operations, lack of customer focus, and other factors. A Zebra business is more common and has a higher probability of success due to its focus on quality products and customer service and its ability to grow in a more predictable fashion. Ron and Dr Tony discussed how it can be difficult to start a unicorn business, as it requires a lot of capital and the risk-averse nature of Australians. Dr Tony also mentioned that it is much better to have a Zebra business, as it will grow in a reasonable and respectable way and you may decide to sell it at some point for a bigger return.

Dr Tony suggests that governments should stay away from getting involved in startups and providing entrepreneurial schemes as they may not be beneficial to the growth of a business.

He explains that government advisors rarely have any experience in the commercial realm, as the government is there to govern taxation and other areas of politics. There has been a movement for the government to get involved in the startup community, but Dr Tony believes it has eroded other parts of the market that should be operated by the commercial sector. He acknowledges that there are tax incentives such as R&D tax incentives and EIS Qualifications that can be taken advantage of, but overall he believes that governments should stay away from getting involved in startups.
