Welcome back to the podcast my people. Episode 48 is here, and this one is a powerful conversation around politics, resilience, and using your voice.

Today we are joined by Afzal Khan. Afzal has had a remarkable career in public service. He worked as a solicitor, became the first British Asian Lord Mayor of Manchester, served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2017, and was elected to the UK Parliament in 2017, where he has served ever since.

In this episode we go deeper into his personal journey, from moving to the UK from Kashmir, Pakistan at a young age to building a life through hard work and determination. We talk about his early experiences working a range of jobs, including in a mill, as a bus driver, and as a police officer, before going on to study law and qualify as a solicitor.

We discuss how that journey led him into politics and how overcoming adversity shaped his mindset and purpose. His story is a powerful example of how resilience and belief can take you far, regardless of your background.

We also get into his work in Parliament, community issues, representation, and why it is important for people to stay informed and engaged in today’s world.

We also get into Kurdistan, Rojava, Rojhelat, Kurdish identity, and the importance of keeping culture, language and history alive. We discuss women’s rights, cultural expectations, and why speaking openly about these topics matters now more than ever.

As a Kurd myself, this episode is very important to me it focuses on Kurdistan, its people, its history, and the political reality that has shaped Kurdish life across generations. We explore how borders were drawn without consent, how promises of protection were repeatedly withdrawn, and why the Kurdish question remains unresolved despite a century of resistance, cooperation, and survival.

From post–World War I settlements to modern conflicts in Iraq and Syria, this episode looks at how Kurdish identity has endured despite repression, displacement, and abandonment. It also examines Rojava today, the role of the SDF, and the human cost paid by civilians caught between regional and global power struggles.

This is not about taking sides. It is about context, memory, and understanding why culture, language, and dignity still matter when people are denied security and self-determination. Having said that. Har Biji Kurdu Kurdistan!

The Art of Film Making

Welcome back to the podcast my people! Today I am sat with Cameron Cairnduff who is a film maker. Cameron recently finished filming his upcoming short film ‘Sunrise.’ Sunrise is about a scam artist who saves the life of a suicidal women. I don’t want to say too much he himself explains it better during the podcast. What Cameron is doing through his movie is highlighting the effects of mental health but also showing we are not alone. Throughout the podcast Cameron talks about his own personal experience with mental health also the experiences of those around him and how their tragic deaths pushed him to make the best short film he could, to raise awareness for people who want to commit suicide. Moreover, we speak about personal development and how we can try to help ourselves or create a sense of community to look after one another. Overall, this a very insightful and important episode I hope you all enjoy it half as much as we enjoyed creating if for you.

We talk about the Erickson twins, the Tromp Family, Sherri Papini and John Darwin. A little teaser, the Erickson twins suffered from what is known as folie a deux. The Tromp family seemed paranoid, John Darwin faked his death to try get out of his financial troubles, and Sherrie, well, we don’t know why Sherrie did what she did. Turning Pain Into Purpose

Welcome back to the podcast my People!

I recently had the privilege of recording a podcast with Taban Shoresh. Taban is the founder of the Lotus Flower charity. The Lotus Flower provides women and girls impacted by conflict with the tools they need to rebuild their lives. The Lotus Flower is based in both the UK and in Kurdistan, it was inspired out of Taban’s own experiences while helping provide aid for victims of the Islamic state. Taban was recently awarded an OBE for her work which has impacted the lives of over 60,000 people.

Additionally, Taban herself has a very inspiring story. She is a genocide survivor, she had miraculously escaped death on many occasions. And yet even with all these challenging experiences she has taken that energy and used it for good. Honestly there is so much more to this, but I just don’t want to give to much away, I want you all to listen to this podcast for yourselves. As a fellow Kurd it was a very proud moment for me to have Taban on the podcast, I consider it Kurdish representation at its finest. I can truly say Taban is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met. The world deserves to hear her story!

Welcome back to the podcast my people! Today I am sat with Ibby Aslam who is a business coach, and a self-development coach. As you may have guessed this episode focuses on self-development. Ibby shares his knowledge and expertise and explains how he turned his life around. Ibby spent 9 years in prison, doing two back-to-back sentences with a 3-month gap in between, before deciding to turn his life around. During his second sentence while going through some personal hardships he decided that he would never again go back to his previous life and would make he made the most out of himself. After prison he focused on opening a business after a few years he also got his hands into property development and now, he has once again expanded to mentoring/coaching. Welcome back to the podcast my people. CULTURE CLASH!! Here we go.

I’m in the studio today with two good friends, Joshy and Noelle. The podcast today is all about integrating into society. How does it feel to be an outsider trying to fit in, I’m sure most of us have felt this in some way. Noelle speaks about growing up mixed race in a predominately white town, she talks about feeling like an outsider in a space where no one shared her culture furthermore, she explains how different it was when she finally moved to a multicultural city, in this case Liverpool. Josh, having grown up in Bangor (Ireland) he explains that in places like Bangor it can be difficult for people to grow up being tolerant of other cultures because they are only surrounded by their own culture. I myself, as some of you may know am Kurdish. I had my own struggles fitting in here in the UK but being in a city like Manchester helps. Welcome back to the podcast! Today I have sat with me Dr Bamo Nouri, here for a second episode. Today, we are discussing Diaspora, and climate Migration. Diaspora is the movement, migration, or scattering of a people away from an established or ancestral homeland.

Climate migration is now becoming an even bigger problem because people are having to leave their origins, this now becoming more and more of a problem because people do not want to leave their homelands due to tragedy. Also, western nations are being put under more pressure to accommodate them. However, as Dr Nouri says in the podcast there is great value is Diaspora and, the mixing of cultures, the sharing of knowledge. This podcast covers a wide range of topics not least Diaspora and climate migration, we also touch on racism and health health, the UN and how they plan to prepare for more of these climate related disasters. Welcome back to the podcast! I got something special for you all today, I’m sat here with Tara, and she is going to explain how she went from… wait for it “from corporate saddie to corporate baddie” I love it, we love it, it’s such a flex!

Jokes aside this episode is a brilliant insight into the world of apprenticeships, Tara left school at 18 and went on to work for IBM, a huge global tech company. She is now a full-time consultant with awards to show for it. Me and Tara also discuss the cultural barriers we face growing up, and for those that do not know me and tara are both Kurdish. Furthermore, she goes on to explain how he has made a difference working with other people from ethnic minority cultures, and how they have made a difference, using networking skills to help make sure the tech sector is more inclusive, so yh, aside from this just being filled with great information for you all to listen to, it is also a really fun, light-hearted, amazingly easy podcast to listen to. Colonialism, a problem that affects all facets. Today I am with Dr David Heathcote, David is an art historian. His expertise make him the perfect guest to discuss this topic with. David teaches at Liverpool John Moors University and is also a published author. We will be discussing this topic in depth, in relation to Architecture. Our museums are filled with treasures belonging to foreign nations. In some cases these items have permanently stayed in western museums and have never been shared or given back to their original owners. This has now in the last 10 years or so become a viral conversation. People all over the world are campaigning hard to get these items returned to their home nations, especially those that have been looted. Of course, it isn’t that simple. In some cases these items were paid for and in others the place they come from no longer exists. However, we also take a deep dive into what architects can do through design to better represent these historical items in out museums. We discuss many museums, many artefacts, and their representation. Essentially, an obsessive artist is always a leading character that needs to perfect their craft and by doing so has to sacrifice something to reach their goals.

With Beth she must overcome her addiction to become a grandmaster at chess and with Nina she must let go of her old self to become the Swan Queen.

Both are very well written and greatly performed. My goal here is to deliver and understanding of how these characters attain their goals throughout their journeys.
