Zander Keig, MS, MSW, LCSW, and Jennifer Henius, LCSW are caregivers and social workers embarking an ambitious and much-needed project to launch the LGBTQ Caregiver Center as a new online resource hub as part of the Caregiver Wellness Collective Inc, a new nonprofit startup based in greater Tampa Bay, Florida.

The LGBTQ Caregiver Center aims to raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by #LGBTQCaregivers and those who care for #LGBTQ individuals, empower LGBTQ Caregivers to live with #pride and #dignity, and serve as a conduit for education, wellness, training, and research. The Center provides information and resources, delivers training and innovative services to enhance the health and wellness of LGBTQ Caregivers.

BJ has worked in all settings of care: hospital, clinic, residential facility, and home. Then in 2017 Grandma Angel health began to change and she needed more help than every before. Lindsay was there to insured that Grandma's Angel final wish was granted.

In this episode it is a pleasure to welcome a good friend of mine Rich Scharf. Rich is a native West Virginian living in St. Louis Mo, and is the only child raised by a single mother, Carolyn, who resides in a Memory Care facility with mid-to-late stage dementia. Rich practices dentistry at a federally qualified health center (FQHC), providing services for those who normally wouldn’t be able to afford them.
Rich started to see a change in his Mom's cognitive abilities a number of years ago and thought he might have to return to West Virginia to care for her (which is was more than willing to do). Now a long-distance caregiver, Rich and his mom are enriched by the care and concern of his Mom’s church which has made long-distance caregiving just a tad bit easier.

Substance abuse is an issue that is not often talked about as it relates to our Senior Community. Join Chris MacLellan 'The Bow-Tie-Guy' on Tuesday October 30th at 1:00 pm (est) for 'Be A Healthy Caregiver' with special guest Patrick Cavnaugh from the Prevention Program at Broward County Elderly and Veterans Services.

The Prevention program is directed at older adults 55 and above. Some are at risk elders, primarily those experiencing mental health or emotional problems, including caregivers. Mr. Cavanaugh interacts and / or provides direct services to older adults in an effort to comprehensively address older adult substance abuse in an integrated manner. Over 1000 seniors and caregivers participate in these services each year.
