Money is the #1 reason women stay in unfulfilling jobs. “I gotta pay my bills” is an universal mantra for the overworked, undervalued and most of the time under paid career woman.

I’ve learned the hard way that getting paid, staying paid and increasing pay are all three totally distinct skill sets that require different ways of thinking and strategy.

Whether you as an employee or entrepreneur getting your money right will always be in season.

Pricing a product or services and hiring help is one of the most challenging parts of starting a business along with negotiating a salary and setting boundaries as an employee.

Money continues to be sensitive topic for women and my guest life's work is to change that! Especially for women of color.

Calling all the Leading Ladies with Dr. Shinka McKiever

Leadership never resonates for women, more so, for women of color because it wasn't built for us.

However, it is long overdue for us to start recognizing the innate leadership traits we all have and flexing that muscle in all the space.

My guest today has done extensive work on women and leadership development and how we can overcome the limitations when it comes to taking the lead professionally.

Dr. Shinika McKiever is a leader, an innovative and intellectual thinker, she is a dreamer and doer, as well as a believer of the power of positivity and leading from within. Dr. McKiever is the Chief Creative Officer of The McKiever Group Creative Company. Her consulting firm provides clients with purpose-driven and creative strategies that encompass business and entrepreneurial solutions, nonprofit management planning, and talent and personal brand development. Additionally, Dr. Shinika currently works as the Director of Foundation Relations in the Division of University Advancement at her alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Prior to joining UNC-Greensboro, Shinika worked as the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at NC A&T State University. Shinika received a B. Sometimes your next best step is to lay plans aside and take a trip outside the familiar that's exactly what my guest Tammy Darmel Moore did a couple of years ago, taking a trip to the motherland. A trip to Africa not only changed her life, but helped her build a legacy that goes far beyond herself.

About Tammy Darmel Moore:

Tammy Darmel Moore, Founder of Footprints in Africa, offers a rich history of over twenty years in Corporate America and is credited with helping enterprises flourish exponentially through her acute business acumen and strategy. Following her retirement from the corporate sector, Tammy wanted to do more to give back, and after a life-changing trip to Ethiopia, Footprints in Africa was born. Driven by her vision and compassion for humanity and fueled by her love for the African continent, Tammy dedicates a large majority of her time and energy to nurturing and building the Footprints in Africa brand. With over two decades of community service experience, Tammy is no stranger to the different layers of creating, developing, and facilitating a business, which has proven valuable for building a non-profit organization.

Where Do We Go from Here

Synopsis of the Episode

My hope is when it's all said and done that there is a collective consensus that agrees that moving forward from the difficult couple of years, that we all experience involves zero tolerance from anything from belief systems to the system at large, that disturbs our peace and takes away from the preciousness of living life fully.

I know in the pass it was normal to separate our lives but I see the shift happening now of us shifting to interconnecting our whole being from the way we work, create, play, serve and rest.

No longer separate entities where one part suffers so another part can thrive…giving up one for the other!

My hope is we continues to change for our betterment and so much so that when history looks back on this time, all that we have endured and survived will not have been all in vain!

As a woman whose purpose is to encourage other women I want to speak from our perspective…

The Weight of our Weight was a series that I started earlier this year when I became increasingly concerned about the toxicity of diet culture and body positivity particularly for ambitious women who want to shift their professional careers to the entrepreneurial space where they need to be forward facing.

I don't want women already underutilize in stale positions to remain stuck because they are waiting to see some magic number on the scale that suppose to make them feel good enough to take the next best step in their careers.

Jeni Hall is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP), certified by the Nutritional Therapy Association.® It was her own health issues that led her to study nutrition. Monique Robinson is a model from Pompano Beach, Florida, who stands at 6 "2' and wears a size 14. She started modeling in the Fall of 2010 following a chance encounter at a convenience store while she was in graduate school to become a licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida.

After graduation, Monique dove headfirst into modeling. Her first show was Meet Me in Miami, for Jones Magazine, in September 2010. Within a year and a half, Monique had appeared on runways in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Atlanta, Detroit, and New York City. Love him or hate him Elon Musk is a successful CEO and quintessential eccentric entrepreneur. Years ago he infamously replied after being ask what encouraging words would he give an aspiring entrepreneur with “If you need to be encouraged you don’t need to be an entrepreneur!”

No, I’m not interviewing him, but after social listening to a spirited discussion on LinkedIn about whether or not entrepreneurs agreed with his sentiment I wonder if there needed to be a deep dive on the difference between encouragement and validation.

The Joy of it All: Black Women Finding Joy

Doing a New Thing!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result but what if you do a new thing and keep getting the same result cause the other piece of the equation has not change.

You are changing but continue to stay in old places with stale and played out rules following the same destructive social constructs will keep you unfulfilled.

All your skills, talent and gifts will not be wasted. If you are being underutilized, then it is time to do a new thing outside of the confines of your corporate office, (especially if they refused to recognize your value).
