Hurricanes Helene and Milton came up the Gulf and East Coast in a most ferocious way, one after the other, causing destruction and havoc along their paths. The natural disasters and storms have taught us that we cannot control Mother Nature, but our Sovereign God is in control of the universe and all that is in it. Therefore, we are dependent on Him to see us through these hardships of life that we must endure together. I pose several questions for your consideration. Do you believe that perpetual storms like hurricanes and tornadoes are warnings from God and that they will get increasingly worse should we not hear His message to repent? Are we being tested by God in our most vulnerable times? How far will He go to get our attention? Humanity has freedom of choice but has chosen to turn away from the only source of our salvation - God. We must return to Him, as the scripture states in Psalm 91:1 NKJV, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. It is time to turn back to God for Jesus is coming back and we know not the day or the hour. Will you be ready when Jesus comes?

This show is all about blessings. I discuss with scriptural references and inspirational songs the reasons why God gives us blessings and what we must do to inherit the bounty of what is on hold for us. Are we thankful enough to Him for His divine providential care? Have we considered what it would be like not to have God in our life? We must consider the options of being in or out of His family. The only way to inherit all that our Heavenly Father has in store for us we must serve Him above all else. He has a blessing with each of our names on it that no one else can claim. Also, when we are blessed God wants us to open up our hearts and bless someone else. Why should we have so much and others so little? We are blessed to bless others and the more we give, the more we will receive. I am a living testimony of what God has done, is doing, and will do in my life, and if He has done it for me, He will do it for you. Trust Him and believe it to be true!

This is my back to school show to encourage and motivate students young and old. School, in my opinion, should be a combination of learning and fun, and a place where students are free to express their God given talents without being labeled as underachievers or compared to overachievers. I have taught both and in my thirty-one years of being an administrator and teacher in an urban school district, and found that all children have gifts and can be successful in school if given the chance, regardless of their surrounding environment. Their only need is for someone to care and recognize any needs that they may have, providing them the necessary help to correct those deficiencies. Children are often classified or put in special education classes for government funding, of which parents may be unaware. My prayer is that mothers and fathers or guardians will consume the contents of this show, share it with their children, and pass it on to others via my podcasts. We loved and valued our teachers coming up, and they loved us enough to ensure that learned. That is what made us who we are today.

We look to the author and finisher of our faith to supply our needs, whether they are emotional, physical, or spiritual. God, through His Son Jesus Christ, promises to give us everything that we need, although not everything that we want. He desires that we have full faith and trust in Him to provide these things and we must go to Him in prayer requesting specifically what we need and then patiently await the answer. Once received we must act accordingly and give thanksgiving to God for our blessings. Our Heavenly Father is not stingy. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and he clothes the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. Do you believe that He will do even more for us? Psalm 23 reminds us that “the Lord is our shepherd and we shall not want.” God shows favor to us in our weakest moments. He is a healer, way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, and light in the darkness. How much better could He be to us? In return for his goodness we must demonstrate true dedication, faithfulness, and thanksgiving to the all wise God.

The environment is in a critical state of disrepair as I see it. However, much of the damage that has been and is being done to planet Earth can be reversed if done in a timely fashion. Pollution of the air, land, and sea is worsening instead of getting better because of man’s inhumanity to man. Yes, we are our own worst enemy - humanity. While our interest is in comfort rather than protection of our natural resources including our children, we are in essence creating a much different world for future generations to live in than the one that we enjoyed growing up. This show is to motivate listeners everywhere to do whatever they can to control pollution, clean up their neighborhoods, and be kind to Mother Earth.

This is the first of several shows that I will do leading up to the Presidential election in the United States. I focus on the diversity of countries around the world who have had female leaders for years. We humbly remember the Queen Elizabeth II who reigned from 1952-2022, and there are many women around the globe currently holding positions of President, Prime Minister, and other positions. I remember Indira Gandhi who served as a stateswoman, Indian politician, and prime minister of India from 1966-1977 and then from 1980-1984 often referred to as “Iron Lady.” The United States has been blessed with a female in the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris. If not now then when? If not us then who? I quite John E. Lewis, “If not us then who? if not now then when?” (misquoted in the audio). Also, I’m reminded of President Kennedy when he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.”

The text used for this show is Proverbs 16 in entirety. My purpose in selecting this passage is to reinforce to others the totality of God’s control in our lives, and how choosing to follow His better way leads to abundant blessings unimaginable. Regardless of our desires and wants, only the Will of our Heavenly Father will be established in the end. We do not have the Lord’s eyes nor his thoughts. Thus, our knowledge is no competition with His wisdom. Essentially we are puppets dancing to the tune of a mighty puppeteer. Hence, as He guides our predestined path we must follow. Without God we can do nothing, like a ship without a sail, just floating in the water and going nowhere. Choose the straight and narrow way where blessings untold await.

We must understand that God hears and answers all prayers. When we feel downtrodden and alone, God is near us. When our souls are tormented by principalities and powers of darkness, He is there to comfort us. He promises never to leave or forsake us. Through it all, we must learn to depend upon God’s grace and mercy to carry us through. Never give up. It is a precious gift to be in the family of God.

Many people fail to realize the importance of praising God in their daily lives. They often feel that their situations are bleak, not hopeful or encouraging and unlikely to have a favorable outcome. However, God has a treasure trove of blessings just waiting to be given to those who believe in his Word and have faith and trust in Him to help us in times of need. We must always remember to praise Him regardless of what life sends our way, and thank him for the bounty of His goodness that we have already received. If God never does another thing for us He’s done enough. However, with each morning comes new mercies. We must continue to praise Him no matter what. That is not a choice, but a command. God will never leave us or forsake us. A childhood hymn reminds us of this teaching early in life: Praise Him, Praise Him all the little children. God is love, God is love.

The central theme of this show is belief or faith in oneself and in God’s Word. We will encounter many trials and tribulations in our journey through life. These situations are often more than we think we can bear. However, faith gives us peace in knowing that trouble is temporary. We can conquer the obstacles of life by believing in God’s power to overcome them. Keeping a positive mindset, regardless of any crisis, will leave room for Christ to enter your heart with His wonder-working power to heal our brokenness. Overall we must keep the faith, believe in ourselves, persevere through dark times, and be thankful for our blessings. Stay close to God and He will stay close to you. Nothing can separate us from God’s love and providential care, except for our unbelief. Why must we thank Him for our problems? Because otherwise we would not know that He can solve them.

The message in this show comes from my personal medical concern and what it meant for someone to take the time to pray for me. I was immediately at ease and worry free for the moment. There are many people needing prayer around the world and this is a plea for everyone to join hands virtually and pray continually for others. When prayers go up blessings come down. Trials and tribulations will come to us all, but God is a doctor in the sick room and He has never lost a case. We must trust Him and believe in His Word, and hold fast to our faith regardless of what happens in our lives. Listeners are encouraged to set aside a meditation time with God every day, and as they listen to my prayer to call out the names of everyone that is in need of prayer. God hears all sincere prayers, and He will answer in the fullness of time.

Matthew 5:16 states, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.” The purpose of this show is to reinforce the understanding that Jesus Christ, the Son of God is an exact replica of God’s glorious light, as the Son and Father are one. We are to reflect their light in our daily lives, just as the most precious stone, a diamond, reflects the light around it, and as we shine brightly in quietude others will see our Heavenly glow and be drawn nearer to the Savior. The illumination of God’s light is much brighter than the greatest star in the universe, the sun. It is where we must be in times of trouble, whereas darkness will lead us away from God’s magnificent love. We will prevail with God on our side.

My biblical references for this show are from the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes. Solomon, son of King David is considered the richest and wisest man of the earth. He is credited for writing this book, which is a journal or diary of Ecclesiastes the preacher. It tells about his life as an older person looking back on the folly of his youth, seeing the life that he once lived and wishing that he could start anew. Early in the book he speaks of life being meaningless. Everything repeats itself and there is nothing new under the sun. However in chapters three through ten God is acknowledged as the giver of all gifts. The message is that life is very fragile and fleeting. There is no time to waste and it is imperative that we cherish the people that we love for the time that we have them. Quality of life is better than quantity. We cannot go back in time, but we can change our course in the now and future by putting God first and praising Him always and in all situations, whether good or bad. God is the source of everything that we have whether great or small and we must be thankful and live in His Will.

The theme for the 2024 National Day of Prayer is “Lift up the Word, Light up the World.” We are to pray for leaders around the world and the constituents of countries that they cover and watch over. Proverbs 29:14 says, “If a king judges the poor with truth, his throne will be established forever. All leaders have moral obligations. Matthew 20:26 states, “But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.” Leaders are servants first. Psalms 133:1 says, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.” Unity is a common goal both leaders and followers should strive for. Finally, Acts 20:28 states, “Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which He obtained with His own blood.” Leaders look after the best interest of their people. The only way to bring the world out of darkness is to be lights in our respective countries, states, and cities. The more light in the world, the less darkness will exist, and the less devastation, fear, and hatred there will be. There is enough work for everyone and we are all ministers for God according to the Bible. There is wonder working power in prayer. I am a believer and the question to my listeners is, “Are you?” Prayer is how we communicate with God, the source of our supply. May He bless those in foreign lands, and may He bless the United States of America.

There are two elements of February that are important for all of us, but predominantly African Americans. The first is recognizing those in our culture who have far surpassed what the world expected them to be and the second is understanding that African Americans suffer more from serious diseases such as high blood pressure, stroke, and heart attack than other races, primarily due to unhealthy diets and living an inactive lifestyle. This show essentially raises the consciousness level of people everywhere, but particularly minorities in any culture who may not be financially able to have the best medical care or afford the best quality foods. We recognize for Black History Month Mr. Tyler Perry who did not let his past of being a poor boy in Louisiana hinder his future. Rather, he followed his dream to become the greatest producer of our time.

This is an incredible show and awesome testimony from a female navy veteran who endured a potentially devastating stroke only ten days after giving birth to her third child. Amazingly, after being paralyzed with a severe loss of vision, she was healed and returned to normal health. This she attributes to her belief that God would work a miracle in her life. The focus of her work now involves heart and stroke prevention, particularly in communities exhibiting a high percentage of strokes. This involves paying closer attention to one’s overall health by eating the proper foods, exercising, and getting routine labs drawn for early detection.

This show gives tips on how to beat the inevitable odds of aging by altering our daily health habits so that they work for us instead of against us as we age.

Dr. Don St-Jon is a psychotherapist of many years who suffered intense abuse as a child. Through faith he was able to move forward, dedicating his life work to helping others deal with the physical, mental, psychological, and social abuse that they encountered as children or later as adults.

Our discussion focused primarily on child abuse and the responsibility that we have to God and society to speak out when we know that someone is being abused, in an effort to save that person’s life and mental wellbeing. This show is about standing strong during the trials and tribulations of life knowing that the Lord is with you. Hurricane Idalia hit our town and there is quite a bit of devastation including fallen trees on houses and buildings, utility poles down, stop lights not working, flooding, lights out across the city, and no internet or cell phone service. Having a serious storm of this magnitude awakens us to the realization that God alone is in charge of the universe. It is a frightening experience for everyone, knowing that humanity can do nothing to control nature. Therefore, we must put our trust in God to protect us from, through, and after these perils. I go to Him in prayer and song when facing catastrophic problems, because He is the only one who can save us. My sharing of several hymns for my audience is to calm their spirits as many are victimized by fires, floods, hurricanes, intense heat, tornadoes, mudslides, tsunamis, powerful winds, and other natural disasters. Our consolation is in knowing that the Heavenly Father will make things right again in His time. We must pray and listen to His still voice in quietude.

This message is in response to the devastating wildfires currently going on in Hawaii, and in addition I prayed for the people there. Weather devastations are not always “acts of God,” although often perceived to be punishment for the sins of the world. God has the power to control storms and other forms of devastation, however most are merely acts of nature. However, God may decide to not intervene when tragedies due to weather conditions occur, because He wants us to come back to Him and focus on eternal life rather than things of the world. If one never encounters storms in life, what assurance would we have that God can save us from them. We cannot reverse devastation upon the land, however God can help us to overcome the effects of the storm and start over anew.

HONORING OUR PAST AND SHAPING OUR FUTURE

The title of this show is derived from the 2022 theme of the United States Coast Guard - Honoring Our Past…Shaping Our Future. I was inspired when reading an article about the annual birthday celebration of the US Coast Guard every August 4th, and felt that this would be a message that everyone needs to hear, although they may not understand why. My discussion centers on reasons why we must appreciate the past for the lessons learned and use that knowledge to catapult us into a more positive future. We must remember the past but not live in it, because the negative chain of events that we have endured will have a great impact on our mindset and ability to get over the drama, essentially keeping us imprisoned in that former place. It is imperative that we replace those negative happenings with positive memories, meaning that we must find new ways of creating happy events and times in our lives. We are to glean what we can from the past but live now. The future may never come because of the uncertainty of life and the swift transitions that it causes without warning. We must forgive others as blaming them for persecuting you will make things worse. Forgiving others and ourself will give us the impetus to move away from former nightmares that life brings to each of us from time to time.

My primary focus is on Abram and Sarai (whose are renamed to Abraham and Sarah, Two Angels sent by God, Lot, Lot’s wife, and Lot’s two daughters. To summarize the story Lot and his wife were told to leave Sodom and Gomorrah because of God’s wrath on them for mistreating the people of God and continuously disrespecting Him. Their lives and actions were deplorable to God and He dispatched two angels to warn Lot and his family to leave immediately because destruction was imminent. When they left the cities were destroyed and Lots wife turned around and looked back. She was instantly turned into a pillar of salt, the very thing that she refused to give the two angels whom Lot had invited to eat at their home. The message to the audiences is to forget the past, because it will impede your forward progress. Follow God’s instructions and choose your associates carefully. Pay close attention to time and keep moving, so that you will succeed in accomplishing your dreams. Never look back.

This show begins with a discussion about anointing. What is anointing and what does it mean to be anointed? I define the different kinds of anointing, in that it started in biblical days when the shepherds would pour oil on the heads of the sheep to protect them from lice and other insects. That ceremonial act has now become a symbol of protection, empowerment, and blessing as we know it today. Several bible verses are shared which speak of God anointing Jesus, after which he goes around doing good and healing others. Subsequent to that others were anointed and appointed by God to carry out a task. This means that all of us are empowered by God through Jesus Christ to do great things. Finally, we know that those who believe in Jesus Christ will do even greater things than Him because of the Lord’s favor on our lives. Life is full of swift transitions and we cannot control fate. However, we have the power from Jesus to go forth with our dreams that we will bless God, others, our families, and ourself. We must not muzzle the mouth of the ox, because we cut off the food and the ox cannot eat. We are to be conduits for others to help them reach their dreams.

ARE YOU IN A VALLEY OF DRY BONES?

The background scripture for this show is Ezekiel 37:1-17. Ezekiel had a vision that the Spirit of God had carried him to a valley that was full of dry bones. They were broken up and weathered and had no life. God spoke to Ezekiel and told him to prophesy over the bones and they started to get sinews and flesh on them and come together. They still had no life. God instructed Ezekiel to prophesy to the four winds of the Earth, representing the entire world, and the bones stood up, an exceeding great army, because the breath of God was in them. Finally Ezekiel was told to take a stick and write the names of Israel and Judah on it. They had been separated and were despondent and without hope. The stick was to reunite them into one. this illustration is used to show that we all have dry bones of anger, despair, excuses, hurt, lack of motivation, pain, and other things. However these dry areas can be replaced with new life and our dry brooks with running water, if we put God first and let Him lead us. The audience is encouraged to write their dreams down, prophesy and pray over them, and watch their manifestation time appear with God at the helm, guiding their path to success. Also, they are encouraged to open the doors of their hearts and lives so others can help them. These are the angels that God dispatches to clear the path thereby enabling us to succeed faster than doing it alone.

Dr. Haynes is a miracle story. He began the discussion by stating that he attempted to commit suicide three times. This was after the death of his father. The last time, when he was 17, the bullet did not dislodge and he then realized that God was keeping him here for a purpose. Once he went back to God he promised to never turn back, and since that time he has been blessed abundantly in so many ways and has shared these blessings with the world. Our discussion started by my asking him what age he began singing. He was 6 and in the Baptist church. We went on the discuss his music and what inspires him to write (God) and he sang two songs during the taping - I LOVE YOU and THANK YOU LORD. We talked about his businesses, publications, and affiliations with so many other renown artists. Dr. Haynes ended the show by giving a very inspirational message to the audience about never giving up because God has a blessing for each of us. AWESOME SHOW!

Our attitude can help or hinder us in fulfilling our dreams. We should do a periodic self-reflection to determine if our attitude and motivations are right for what we are aspiring to do. Two biblical examples are given that support the main idea: Moses leading the Israelite children to the promised land and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. They show how having a positive outlook and a strong faith in God can change a negative situation into a positive one and cause your enemies to be your footstool. God has already ordained us for success and having the right attitude will ensure that we reap the benefits that are waiting for us. Negative attitudes will give negative results. Positive attitudes will yield positive results.

This is a follow-up show on dreams. I stress the importance of owning your dreams and following them to the end, regardless of negative situations that may occur along the way. Tips given include: stay focused, work while you have the mental and physical ability to pursue your dreams. Time moves quickly by. One must have confidence, motivation, and passion about their dream, even when life does not appear to be in agreement with you. There will be times when you may want to throw in the towel, but a quitter never wins and a winner never quits. Everyone has talents waiting to be a blessing to the world. Stay with positive people, the ones who are able to show you the way towards being successful, because they have already done what you are aspiring to do. Stay away from the naysayers or dream snatchers, as they will drain your desire and make you feel incompetent to reach your goal. When people see that you are committed to your dream and working diligently to bring it to fruition, they will step in to help you. When others try to dissuade you, smile and keep on pursuing your dream!

Characteristics of a Godly Leader

This show is a recapitulation of the sermon given by The Rt. Rev. Reginald Thomas Jackson, Presiding Prelate of the Sixth Episcopal District covering the state of Georgia, USA. This sermon was delivered on the last day of the 111th Session of the South Georgia Annual Conference, March 3, 2023. It was given at the commissioning service for conference officers and ministers/pastors in the South Georgia Conference who received appointments for the 2023-24 conference year. Bishop Jackson used as his text the story from the book of numbers about Moses leading the Israelites to the promised land. Moses sends out 12 men, one from each of the 12 tribes of Israel, to spy on the Promised Land and return with a report after 40 days. Instead, there were 2 reports. One given by Joshua and Caleb, a minority of two tribes and the majority report, which was negative, given by the remaining 10 tribes. The Israelites listened to the majority report which caused them to not enter the promised land and to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. Moses did not get to enter the land, but after almost everyone had died, Joshua and Caleb entered the promised land. The message was given to leaders and it basically told them that they need influence to lead and they get influence from the people that they lead, which takes time for them to build confidence and trust in the leader. He gave three main things that Godly leaders must do: Practice what you preach, Be yourself, and don't give up on yourself. Love the people and they will reciprocate over time. He stresses that leaders must continue to lead even when the going gets rough, because God will see them through. It is a great message for anyone aspiring to be a leader and those already leading who need to understand that the more influence you have, the better leader you become.

My reference is Ecclesiastes 3:1-15 NRSV updated version. I discuss the text in reference to two aspects that the preacher focuses on: TIME and LIFE. My emphasis is on the importance of living life to the fullest while you have it because time is constantly moving. We are all captives of time from the moment that we are born until we leave, but the important thing is how we live our lives in the middle part of those two elements. We spend most of our lives working and in relationships but there is very little time for us to rest and enjoy what really makes us happy until it is almost too late.SUMMARY: Do it now. Follow your heart and your dreams now. Life is only a minute with sixty seconds in it.

Dr. Martin Luther King’s most well-known address that was given at the Lincoln Monument in Washington, DC at the historic March on Washington that had a quarter of a million people in attendance. I discussed the implications for us now, some 60 years later including positive things that have happened and those that have not yet been accomplished. This message, as well as Dr. King’s address is intended for people of all races, creeds, and denominations as we are all sisters and brothers in the family of God.

I took a hard look at the significance of Valentines Day around the world and determined that it is considered to be the day when the most love is shown around the world. My message to my listeners is that love is enduring and should be demonstrated at all times as opposed to just one day. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a was dissected to show what love is not biblically speaking. The listeners were asked to examine their hearts and motives and to be extra patient with loved ones who may be experiencing difficult times.

CAREGIVING GOD’S WAY WITH LOVE

This episode is about understanding the importance of caring for loved ones, particularly the elderly, with love. I want the audience to realize that as parents get older a role reversal takes place. Parents become like children in many respects and children must assume the role of their parents. This comes to everyone and we are to follow the precepts and tenets of the Bible in assuming the role of caregiver. It takes a special person to serve in this capacity and everyone may not be called to do bedside nursing, however we can all do something. I discuss thing like properly handling stress and taking care of yourself to prevent undue tiredness and sickness. Most importantly, we must love those whom we care for and not make them feel guilty for having to be cared for.

TIME FOR A FAITH TALK

The purpose of this show is to define faith in a way that the audience can understand with examples. I discuss the importance of walking by faith through unchartered waters in our lives and the understanding that there are two inseparable parts to faith, i.e. belief in the facts and trust in God. God is the author and finisher of our faith; the captain who steers our ships in the direction that will avoid dangers that lie ahead. The charge to the hearers is to give God 100 percent so that your life can be changed to coincide with the Will of God, thereby opening manifold blessings that God is holding for them. I referred to the movie, TITANIC, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet because it is an historic movie that shows true love, faith, and trust and this is compared to our love, faith, and trust for God and Jesus Christ. Several scripture references are given - Matthew 21:32, John 3:16, John 10:10, Romans 12:2, Hebrews 11:1, Hebrews 12:2, James 2:19.

This show is about self-love or introspection. It is important that we learn to love ourselves before we can share that agape love with others. When we learn to love ourselves we begin to believe in our ability to accomplish things that we never thought that we could. I use several quotes from John C. Maxwell’s PUT YOUR DREAM TO THE TEST to motivate the audience into wanting to focus on the dream within them and not waste time comparing themselves to others that they want to be like. Most of our lives we are being led by others and often do what we think will make them proud of us, knowing within that it is far from what we really want to be in life. Children learn to obey and not disappoint our parents, teachers, etc. However, life only comes by once and it passes very quickly. Therefore we must use that time wisely and pursue our own dreams. God will help us become all that we can be but he will never help us to become someone else.

My intent is to teach the importance of gaining power over those who are unpleasant to us by simply guarding what we say and how we talk.
