We all know the difference between love and lust but, let's dig a little deeper to understand the dangers of lust and how we can control feelings of lust in our lives. Lust separates us from others and God and eventually destroys us from within. We must move from a place of lust to a place of unconditional love.

Love is an act of service and willing others well; it is through this service we express how important another person is in our lives. True love leads the other person to heaven. Lust, on the other hand, is how the other person can serve us and how we can use the other person. We are called to be saints and to make others saints; lust destroys that. The opposite of love is not hate, it's lust.

Sex was desired by God to bring unity in relationships and to bring life into this world. We are called to love others as God loves them and serves them.

What is going to fulfill our lives? Life is a list of things that lead us to fulfillment. But, how are we going to figure out what is best for us? How are we going to identify God’s will for our lives? Discernment is the answer. It is to make a decision based on what we have learned or understood. We need to get to know the heart, mind, will, and action of God to discern His plan for our lives.

It is possible to figure out God’s plan for our lives. Fr. Rob Galea gives us 5 ways to discern the will of God:

Catholics are often asked if they worship Mary. The simple answer is No. We do not worship Mary; we venerate Mary. We are not called to worship anyone but God; He alone deserves our praise, adoration, and worship. No one can enter the Kingdom of the Father without Jesus; Mary points us to Jesus. Our eyes and hearts, like Mary’s, should always be focused on Jesus alone.

Mary is our Mother; the Mother given to the world by Jesus at the Cross. As Catholics, we venerate Mother Mary. To venerate means to give Mother Mary the honor because of what she stands for and because she is the Mother of Jesus incarnate. In veneration, we attempt to become like Mother Mary. Here are 5 reasons why Fr. Rob Galea venerates Mother Mary:

Should Christians exercise? As a person who exercises, Fr. Rob finds it difficult to go for a walk or go to the gym when he is low on energy. However, once he gets to the gym, it is no longer difficult and he always feels better about it. We are called to love God with all our hearts, our mind, and our strength; we are called to honor God with every part of ourselves - body, mind, and soul.

These are gifts from God and we need to train our bodies and minds to make our souls holy. Here are 5 Reasons why Christians should exercise:

The health of your soul is reflected in your body and mind
The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
Exercise is a modern-day asceticism
We become aware of vanity
It helps us to serve others better

Every little exercise, every little thing we do to take care of our bodies helps us become more equipped to serve others the way Jesus did. He has called us to live life to our potential and to do this, we must pray, eat healthily, and exercise thereby taking care of our mind, body, and soul.

Today, we explore who and what the Holy Spirit is on WKLY with Fr. Rob. We know so much about Jesus; we also know about The Father in Heaven who is almighty and all kindness. What do we know about the Holy Spirit? Much has been written about the Holy Spirit but who is He?

The Holy Spirit is not a symbol, a dove, a flame, a river, a gentle breeze, or even a fruit! The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person in the Holy Trinity; we only see a representation of the character of the Holy Spirit through God’s creation. He is a person with a personality, will, and character, He is someone we can talk to, communicate with, and listen to.

Fr. Rob Galea helps us discover the Holy Spirit as a person and what He does in our lives:

We can have a relationship with Holy Spirit
He empowers us to live out our vocation
He gives us the strength to live a supernatural life

Why does God allow suffering? Why would a God who wants the best for us allow us to suffer? Even though there is suffering in this world, God sent His Son, Jesus, to earth and He suffered. This suffering is temporary; it is not the worst thing that can happen or the greatest evil on earth.

Suffering is a part of life and we all suffer but, it is possible to turn that suffering into something beautiful by surrendering it to Jesus. Our God who is perfect chose to suffer.

With Fr. Rob Galea, let’s explore what God can do through our suffering:

Charitable; causes us to put others before ourselves
Humility; makes us humble before others and God

God wants us to transform ourselves to become more like Jesus and to desire Jesus through suffering; it helps us know the pain that Jesus endured. God does not give us suffering; it is often a consequence of nature or our very own actions. Even though we go through suffering, God is there in our suffering; He is closest to those who suffer. God can take our mess and turn it into a message.

Ep 07 - Can We Confess Online?

People are desperate for the forgiveness of God. But it can be scary when you have to speak to someone face to face and tell them your sins. May seem to think that the priests are there to judge and condemn them. The Sacraments are a tangible way for the Lord to connect and be closer to His people.

The Sacrament of Confession was initially a public admission of sin and guilt in front of the whole church. Eventually, the priests were given, through their ordination, the power to absolve people of their sins on behalf of Jesus. The priest gives us the embrace of the Father, the forgiveness of Jesus…

Here are three things to remember when we get scared of the Sacrament of Confession:

The priest is not there to offer judgment; he is there to offer the forgiveness of God
We aren’t going to scandalize the priest or impress the priest
There is confessional secrecy

So can we confess online through Facebook, Instagram, Zoom, DMs, or TikToks? The church emphasizes that we need to be physically present to feel the “embrace of God”. When we confess online, the guarantee of confessional secrecy is not fulfilled. The Holy Father, Pope Francis, said that if we are unable to go to confession, we can get absolution for our venial sins through the Act of Contrition.

Ep 06 - Find Your Purpose

Do you have a purpose? Do you have something you are willing to live for? Or to die for? Have you truly started living if you don’t have a purpose?

God has a plan for us but we get distracted and lose focus from this plan. If we have focus, then we’re going to be able to go forward even when things get tough because we have our eyes on the prize. When we see the results of the end purpose, we find the strength and joy to keep going. Many don’t encounter this joy because they don’t take the risks to live their life to the full. At times, we may face pain and obstacles along the way, but we must use this to move forward in our purpose. God has a plan for us and He will use every situation for our good if we focus on Him, if we focus on our purpose.

Here are a few ways to discover your purpose:

Ask God
Do something to reach out to others
Ask your loved ones what they think about your passion and purpose
Surround yourself with people who want what is best for you
Start new conversations

God has instilled in us a purpose, we have to seek it out. The greatest purpose of our lives is to live and die for Jesus

When we decide what kind of person we want to be, it is important to surround ourselves with people who are better than us. The Bible talks about role models and the importance of having them; it talks about the first role models in our lives - our parents. Role models show us how to handle strengths, gifts, and even weaknesses; they teach us how to live out the most important calling in our life - to be a Saint! The greatest role model that ever existed was Jesus! It is important to surround ourselves with Jesus, to learn about Jesus, see how Jesus acted and reacted, and become like that. God the Father and Mother Mary taught Jesus and they were His role models; they can be ours too.

Our words and actions are also constantly influencing others. Here’s how we can be the best role models to others:

Ep 03 - Do Animals Go to Heaven?

Will our pets go to Heaven? In order to answer this, we need to understand what exactly is Heaven. As Catholics, we believe that there is Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory - all places that we go to when we die. Heaven is more than just a physical place that is a fantasy; it is beyond earthly concepts like space and time. Heaven is a place where our hearts beat with the heartbeat of God; it is a state of being where only God matters, and we are lost in the unconditional love of God.

So, are animals instrumental in helping us understand this unconditional love? They continue to love us and give us attention when we hurt them or avoid them. St. Thomas Aquinas said that animals don’t go to Heaven but Fr. Rob Galea is unsure about this. Humans were created for Heaven and animals were created for this world to help humans achieve Heaven.

Our vocation, as humans, is to see animals and recognize Jesus in God’s creation; we see His unconditional love through them. Heaven is about being sold out for God and our happiness is not dependent on our pets being or not being there.

Ep 01 - Did Jesus Really Exist?

Have you ever asked: “Did Jesus really exist?” In this episode, we explore the “historicity” of Jesus. Philosopher Bertrand Russell said that it was doubtful whether Christ existed and that if He did, we do not know anything about Him. Roman historian, Tacitus, writes about Jesus and His crucifixion. Flavius Josephus, a Jew, also wrote about Jesus and His crucifixion. Many others after them also wrote about the Nazarene who performed miracles. Not just historians, we also have the Bible - a book full of references to history to help us understand Christ who was part of history and is still alive today.

He existed fully human and fully divine; He rose from the dead! There is historical evidence of Jesus' existence through his disciples, through books, and even nature! To us, He is more than a historical figure; we have a relationship with the living God by speaking and listening to Him. Let’s dive deeper into knowing Jesus Christ and develop a relationship with Him.
