Poet and activist, Maya Angelou, shared, "If you're going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can't be erased."

Exploring that journey-or road-to legacy has been a decades-long obsession for New York-born besties Donald Reid and Martin Small ( shout-outs to The Bronx and Harlem, respectively). You don't become two of Soho's & Tribeca's most renowned doormen/ concierges without having great smiles, oodles of charm, and prodigious conversational skills. For Martin & Donald, 40 yrs in the hospitality industry has afforded them close and personal views of roads to some legacies being built, tarnished, rebuilt, ignored, and more. Road To Legacy Podcast ( as we are and of quipping, the Old Man versus Young Man Podcast!') captures conversations with notable guests on wide-ranging, relevant, and engaging topics and their personal Roads To Legacy. You won't help but relish the passionate and wildly entertaining disagreements among the hosts (young vs old; left vs right; determinism vs free will, etc.) and witness how their love and respect for one another and their guests are real. In the end family is family.

Road To Legacy Podcast sits down with Eric Williams, Senior Director at HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services, for a raw and deeply personal conversation about growing up in group homes—and how foster care didn’t just change our paths, it saved our lives.

Together, we reflect on childhoods shaped by instability, the mentors and systems that stepped in when families couldn’t, and the moments that helped transform survival into purpose. This episode explores brotherhood, accountability, and how growing up in care helped mold us into the men, leaders, and advocates we are today.

This is a conversation about healing, growth, and building legacy—no matter where you start.

This season, we’re excited to welcome our new co-host, Curtis Reed. He’s been a contributor before, but now he’s officially part of the crew. Curtis is a lover of history, passionate about politics and law, and deeply rooted in his faith — bringing a fresh and thoughtful perspective to the table.

In our first episode, whistleblower Emanuel Stanley — who was fired from the Department of Health for speaking out about the unspoken syphilis outbreak — joins forces with the legendary Bill Duke. You’ve seen Bill in Predator, Commando, Deep Cover, Sister Act 2, just to name a few. He’s also a director, producer, father, and mentor. Together, Bill and Emanuel are working to raise awareness about the impact of syphilis on Black and Brown communities.

This season, our mission remains the same: to inspire, educate, and challenge perspectives through conversations and debates on politics, history, and culture.

Professor and Chair, Department of American Studies at Indiana University. His work centers on the intersection of labor history and the struggle for racial justice in societies shaped by white supremacy, particularly in the U.S. South (1865-1954) His book, Twice the Work of Free Labor examines the role of convict leasing and chain gangs in the remaking of the American South in the half century after the Civil War. Donald and Martin talk to Dr Lichtenstein about "Unmasked" , an exhibit at the Crispus Attucks Museum (1140 Dr MLK Jr. St., Indianapolis) Works of art that's teaching the ugly history of lynching in America. We wanted to know the challenges of a white professor teaching the truth about white supremancy and racist violance in America.
